Helpful Hints for a Better Harvest
Helpful Hints for a Better Harvest
- Harvest romaine heads in the morning when the leaves are crisp, sweet, and full of moisture.
- For single servings, remove only the outer leaves of the plant.
- When harvesting an entire head of romaine lettuce, cut the head close to the soil, allowing one to two inches of the plant to remain above the base. This will promote additional growth and extend your harvest.
- GreenVenus™ Romaine Lettuce was developed to retain its color, flavor and texture for a longer period of time after cutting or shredding; however, to ensure the longest possible shelf-life, we recommend storing shredded or cut lettuce in the refrigerator, wrapped in a clean kitchen or paper towel to retain moisture.
Growing Information
Growing Information
- GreenVenus™ Romaine Lettuce is a cool-season annual, best grown during the spring and fall seasons for much of the United States.
- GreenVenus™ Romaine Lettuce is frost hardy and in milder climates can be direct sown inground before the last average frost and as soon as the soil is workable.
- GreenVenus™ Romaine Lettuce can be transplanted, in which case, seedlings should be started 3-4 weeks before transplanting and should be properly hardened off.
- All lettuce, including GreenVenus™ Romaine, should be well watered throughout its lifecycle, from seed sowing to harvest.
- We recommend succession sowing for a continuous supply of delicious GreenVenus™ Romaine Lettuce. Seeds should be direct sown or transplanted every two weeks throughout the growing season.
